Important Information -
Coaches that currently hold a license from a soccer association of a different country should write the NHSA Director of Coaching with proper documentation of the course that was taken. In this case, waivers will be granted on an individual basis. -
All courses are participatory in nature. The candidates are asked to demonstrate and participate in actual playing environments to the extent that they are able. Candidates are asked to bring a ball along with water, a notebook and pen and be dressed to play. -
To set up a course: Club or league representatives can contact the NHSA Director of Coaching. The course administrator is responsible for securing a facility, registering candidates, communicating course information to all candidates and managing during the course. Minimum number of participants: G, Youth Modules & E - 15 participants, D - 20 participants. | 'G' Level Coaching Certificate | Host a Course | Course Schedule | The Recreation Level License The Recreation Level License The 'G' License is a 3-4 hour course and is an excellent introduction to youth soccer. It is designed for parents and coaches in recreation programs. It covers basic coaching philosophy and methods of organizing a practice session using the games approach for teaching soccer skills. Candidates must be 12 years of age or older. Cost: $10 for NHSA Member or $20 for Non-Member (Fees may vary from the above in order to cover facility costs.) | | Youth Module Certificates | Host a Course | Course Schedule | U6/U8 Youth Module & U10/U12 Youth Module Certificates In 1996, US Soccer's coaching programs developed a National License that was designed to specifically address the needs and developmental characteristics of players at the U-6 to U-12 ages. Many of us saw this as a long overdue move, eagerly embracing and promoting the concepts, philosophies and teaching methods that are advocated at this course. We quickly refined many of the courses ideas, and subsequently developed modules that will be taught at the State Level. These "State Youth Modules" replaced the 'F' license course. U6/U8 Youth Module (Candidates must be 12 years or older.) Cost: $35 for NHSA Member or $70 for Non-Member U10/U12 Youth Module (Candidates must be 14 years or older.) Basic tactics are taught at the individual and small group levels (up to 5 v. 5), as well as basic principles of attack and defense (creating space, mobility, width, height, support, team shape, etc.) There are also sessions of prevention and care of injuries and the laws of the game. Practice sessions are evaluated and candidates must complete a written examination. The 'E' License is a 16 hour course. Coaches can attend the 'E' License directly. (Candidates must be 16 years or older.) Cost: $70 for NHSA Member or $140 for Non-Member (Fees may vary from the above in order to cover facility costs.) | | 'D' Level Coaching License | Host a Course | Course Schedule | Coaching Players 14 Years And Older The philosophy of the D License and this age group is devoted to simulating game situations for individuals and teams to solve. Training takes place at speed, pressure and functional format. Individual and group tactics are addressed through the concepts of principles of play, as well as systems and styles of play. Methods used to teach tactics, fitness and technique are addressed. Candidates must complete a written exam, a practical field exam and submit a paper.
